Mobile trading security tips and best practices

Are you already trading using your mobile? If you have, good for you! If you haven’t, you may want to discover the benefits of doing so in our previous feature article More and more people are turning to their mobiles to trade.

Whether you are already using mobile trading or planning to use mobile trading in the near future, you may want to pay attention to a few best practices tips that we have gathered here to stay safe while you trade:

The convenience of trading using a mobile smart device wins over new users by the day at an explosive pace.

Do Lock device

This basic function of your device should be activated immediately for your safety. Forgetting to lock your mobile device when not using it is common among users. With the auto-lock function, your mobile can be pre-set to lock after a preset time lapse of inactivity. Auto-lock function can be activated anytime between one to five minutes of inactivity.

Coded Unlock Feature

A second step to further enhance the security of your mobile device is to use a passcode unlock feature, either by keying in a four-digit code or by drawing a pattern.

Don’t auto-save usernames/passwords

Although convenient, bear in mind that should your mobile device fall into the wrong hands, your security will be compromised! To be on the safe side, spend that extra few seconds to key in your username/password every time you need to log in. Also, to prevent accidentally locking your trading account, do check your keypad to ensure “CAPS LOCK” is switched off/on before keying in your password.

Be careful with public Wi-Fi access

In public areas, do try to access mobile trading via secure personal Wi-Fi networks. Do not connect to unsecured Wi-Fi networks while on the move. This is to prevent unscrupulous hackers who may intercept personal data (passwords, account numbers etc.) being transmitted.

What to do if your device is missing/stolen?

Inform our Call Centre (+603 2071 9000) immediately to reset login password / trading PIN to invalidate the old password / trading PIN. Next, contact your mobile service provider to report the loss and to deactivate your old SIM card. Finally, remotely wipe off all data from your device to ensure that sensitive information does not fall into the wrong hands.
